Southern Middles School is committed to student success. In addition to daily in school teaching and learning activities, SMS is proud to offer an array of digital resources to support our students in their learning process. These resources are used both during school hours and can be accessed at home via a computer with an internet connection. Announcements

Week of May 22nd

 

Hello, this is Dusty Martin, Assistant Principal of Southern Middle School, with some important announcements for Panther families.

 

SMS theater arts and set design classes will be performing the student written play, 'The Great Fortune Teller' Monday, May 22 at 6pm in the auditorium. Admission is free.

All Academic Banquet form and money is due by May 26th to Mr. Poole

All students who are a part of our AIG program have received their Annual Review forms or will receive them within the next few days.  Please sign these forms and return them to Ms. Hickey as soon as possible, and contact Ms. Hickey if you have any questions. Eighth grade students who have concerns about their schedules and enrollment in the appropriate classes for AIG should contact Ms. Lipscomb at the high school.

NJHS APPLICATIONS:  All current 7th grade NJHS members who would like to continue to be in NJHS must re-apply.

FINES:  Invoices for laptops, library books, and athletics MUST BE PAID IN FULL by June 5th before 3:30 for students to be permitted to participate in any year end celebrations (i.e. PBIS celebrations, academic celebration, etc.) and the promotion ceremony for 8th graders.

PHS DRILL TEAM:  PHS Drill Team practices are on May 22-24 from 3:45 pm - 6:30 pm.  Practice will take place in the PHS Gym.  Tryouts will take place on May 25th at 4:15 pm.

TESTING PROCTORS NEEDED:

As we approach End of Grade testing, SMS is in need of some additional testing proctors.    Please consider donating some of your time to help us with testing.  Please complete this google form if you are able to volunteer. 

8TH GRADE FORMAL:  The 8th grade formal, “ A Night On The Red Carpet,” will be on Thursday, June 8th from 7-9 pm.

8TH PROMOTION CEREMONY:  The 8th grade promotion ceremony is on Friday, June 9th at 9 am in SMS gym.  Students MUST wear black and white.  Black dress pants, a tie and a white button shirt for males is required.  A dress or dress pants and a shirt for females is required.  Students must still be within dress code parameters for this event.  

REMINDER:  Fidget spinners, slime and bandannas should not be brought to campus and are subject to confiscation if they are visible.  These items will not be returned until a parent picks the item(s) up.  

GREAT CAMP:  Applications for GREAT Camp are in the main office.  We will have camp during the following weeks:  June 26-30, July 10-14, and July 24-28.  Please see Officer Walker for more information.  

SAVE THE DATE - EOG:  This year EOG exams are scheduled for the following dates:

8th Grade Science EOG - Friday, May 26th

6th-8th Grade Reading EOG - Wednesday, May 31st

6th-8th Grade Math EOG  - Thursday, June 1st

North Carolina Final Exams - 6th and 7th Science and 6-8 Social Studies - Monday, June 5th Math I & Math II Final Exam - Tuesday, June 6th

Please ensure that you child is here to take their exams on these days.

BOX TOPS:  Our final box-top contest of the year will start on Monday, May 1st- Monday, May 29. Every student that turns in 50 box tops will get a treat. Please turn in box tops into Mrs. Kennedy in the main office and get your treat.

HOME SPORTING EVENTS:  

We have no home sporting events this week.
